How To Install Solar Pump System?

Step 1:  Structure

The first step in installation of solar pump system is erection of the structure. 

The solar panels required to run the electric motor are mounted on the structure. The structure provides a proper alignment of the solar panels with sun. Also the structure should possess sufficient mechanical strength to hold the solar panels against strong winds and hail. The design of the structure depends on the panel configuration that depends on the horsepower of the motor.

Ideally 1 HP = 0.746 KW

Consider the rating of the controller, as thumbrule installers consider the KW of panel as equivalent to HP of solar pump

Step 2:  Installation

The second step in the installation of the solar pump. This requires first fixing the pump motor assembly. After the pump motor assembly tape the polyethylene pipe with thread tape and screw it to the pump. Splice the drop cable to the motor cable. Attach the steel safety cable to pump and roll out with rising main and drop cable. Attach the safety cable end to the bore cap allowing for the rising main to stretch. Check the fittings for strength and slack for stretch. Now Lower the pump into the well

STEPS 3

The final step is installation of the contoller and integration of the system. The controller is genrally mounted on the main column of the structure. The cables are then connected and checked for loose connection. The controller is then programmed for the motor configurations before finally starting it to run the motor. 3:  System Integration

HOW MANY PANELS ARE NEEDED TO POWER WATER BOREHOLE PUMP.

It depends on the wattage of the water pump. In Nigeria most low AC water pump comes in horse power. Most homes use 1 hospower pumps.. this is equivalent to 770watts.

But in general, you need 5 solar panels for a 100-watt water pump. 

If a panel produces 20 watts and you have a water pump of 300 watts, then you need 15 solar panels to run the pump.

The measurement should be perfect and accurate to get sufficient energy from the panels. An underestimation might affect you when you need more energy and water

In view of this the watt capacity of the panel should be noted. For a 100w att pump which is DC you may use minimum 250watt panel one or 5 fifty watt panels.

To make the DC pump work you don't need an inverter. Inverters are for AC pumps. 

The panels are connected to the charge controller that is connected to the battery in case you want to pump water at night also.

To power one horsepower pump you ned three 200ah batteries and seven 250watts panel with 1.2kva inverter, 60am mppt charge controller.

If you only need to pump  during the day... You dont really need a battery.
