They almost gave up.

Kunle and Sade met  in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after a midweek church service near Kuto. What started as friendship grew into love, but the waiting stretched far longer than they planned or expected. 

Years passed by, and life refused to cooperate. Kunle’s income was unstable at that season, and Sade’s small tailoring business barely covered her daily needs.

 There was no money for a wedding ceremony, no savings for a decent house where they can start a family, only faith and constant prayers was in abundance.

Pressure came from everywhere. Friends moved on. Family members advised them to “wait till things are better.” some said they should quite the relationship.

 Many times, they talked about ending it, not because love was gone, but because life felt too hard.

I am a pastor, and for years our church depended heavily on a petrol generator to power our public address system and a few light bulbs during services. Every week, fuel expenses kept rising. Sometimes, we spent close to ₦40,000–₦50,000 monthly just to ensure sound and basic lighting. It became a serious burden on the church finances.

Third, replace comparison with appreciation. Every family has a unique journey. Focusing on strengths instead of shortcomings brings contentment. Appreciation should be spoken, not assumed. Words of affirmation restore confidence and belonging.

Another set of habits that silently damages family peace involves emotions that are left unattended. Emotional neglect does not always look like cruelty. Often, it looks like busyness, tiredness, or routine.

The fourth silent habit is taking family members for granted. When appreciation disappears, people begin to feel invisible. Spouses stop saying thank you. Parents assume children understand love without hearing it. Children stop expressing gratitude because it is no longer modeled. Over time, this lack of appreciation creates emotional hunger, even in homes where basic needs are met.

The fifth habit is unresolved conflict. Many families believe time heals all wounds, but time only covers issues; it does not resolve them. When conflicts are ignored, they resurface in different forms. Small disagreements become long-standing bitterness. Tone changes. Kindness reduces. The home becomes tense, even without open arguments.

These habits often go unnoticed because they are silent. No shouting. No dramatic conflict. Yet, they weaken trust, joy, and togetherness in the home.

The first silent habit is poor communication masked as “keeping the peace.” 

In many homes, family members avoid honest conversations because they do not want arguments. Parents keep quiet. Spouses bottle up frustrations. Children learn not to speak up. Over time, silence becomes resentment. When people stop expressing how they feel, misunderstanding grows, and emotional distance replaces closeness. Sometime deep seated hatred for one another are cemented in their hearts

The second habit is constant distraction inside the home. Phones, television, and social media have become permanent family members. Meals are eaten with screens on. Conversations are interrupted by notifications and alerts. Even when everyone is physically present, no one is emotionally available for one another. Even during the loss of loved ones people are still glued to the phones or tablets. This habit slowly breaks family bonding because attention is the currency of love. When Jesus came preaching, He said, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15). This gospel reveals that through Christ, God has established His authority over sin, Satan, and death, and invites humanity to live under that authority. Understanding this truth transforms not only personal faith but also daily life and family relationships.

At the heart of the Gospel of the Kingdom is the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not only come to save souls for heaven; He came to restore God’s rule in the hearts of men. By His sinless life, sacrificial death on the cross, and victorious resurrection, Christ broke the power of sin. Sin no longer has legal dominion over those who believe in Him. Romans 6:14 declares, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” This means that through the gospel, believers are not helpless victims of sinful habits or destructive lifestyles. Christ’s authority gives power to live a new life of obedience and righteousness.

The Gospel of the Kingdom also proclaims Christ’s authority over Satan. Colossians 2:15 tells us that Jesus “spoiled principalities and powers” and triumphed over them openly through the cross. Satan, who once held humanity in fear and bondage, has been defeated by Christ. While the devil is still active in the world, his authority has been broken. Believers now stand in Christ’s victory. This truth brings confidence, peace, and boldness in spiritual warfare.

 The gospel assures believers that fear, oppression, and demonic influence do not have the final say; Jesus does.

Furthermore, the Gospel of the Kingdom announces victory over death. Through His resurrection, Christ conquered the grave and brought life and immortality to light. Death is no longer the end for those who are in Christ. As Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:57, “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” This hope reshapes how believers view suffering, loss, and the future. Eternal life is not just a promise for tomorrow but a reality that begins now, giving meaning and hope to everyday living.

Understanding the gospel in this way deeply affects a believer’s daily life. First, it shapes identity. A believer no longer sees himself as a defeated sinner but as a redeemed citizen of God’s Kingdom. 

This identity influences decisions, values, and priorities. Daily choices at work, in business, and in relationships are guided by the question: “How does a citizen of God’s Kingdom live?” Integrity, love, forgiveness, and humility become practical expressions of kingdom life.

Second, the Gospel of the Kingdom affects daily conduct through obedience to Christ’s authority. Jesus said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). When a believer submits to Christ’s lordship, daily life becomes aligned with God’s will. Prayer is no longer a religious routine but a way of enforcing kingdom authority. Reading the Word becomes a source of direction and strength. Challenges are faced with faith, knowing that Christ reigns above every situation.

The gospel also has a powerful impact on family life. When Christ’s authority is acknowledged in the home, it brings order, peace, and love. Husbands are called to love their wives sacrificially, as Christ loves the church. Wives are encouraged to support and respect their husbands. Parents raise children with godly values, discipline, and instruction in the Lord. The Gospel of the Kingdom teaches forgiveness, patience, and reconciliation, which are essential for healthy family relationships. Instead of strife and bitterness, the home becomes a place where Christ’s peace rules.

In addition, families that understand the Gospel of the Kingdom live with purpose. They see their home as a center for kingdom influence, prayer, and godly example. Family devotion, shared prayer, and mutual encouragement become tools through which Christ’s authority is expressed. Such families stand strong against moral decay, fear, and societal pressure because they are grounded in the truth of the gospel.

In conclusion, the Gospel of the Kingdom is the declaration that Jesus Christ reigns supreme over sin, Satan, and death. It is a message of power, restoration, and hope. When embraced, it transforms personal life and family living. Believers are empowered to live victoriously, love deeply, and stand boldly as representatives of God’s Kingdom on earth. When the TACMX reforms were announced in January 2026, many Nigerians listened with cautious hearts. We had heard promises before. But as weeks turned into months, something quietly began to change, not just in policy papers, but in markets, offices, farms, and digital spaces across the country.

Aisha, a small-scale fashion designer in Ilorin, was among the first to notice. The new tax adjustments under TACMX reduced the burden on micro and small businesses, allowing her to reinvest profits instead of struggling to survive.

 With easier access to digital payment systems and simplified registration processes, she expanded her customer base beyond her state, selling to buyers in Lagos and even abroad.

In Aba, Chinedu, a spare-parts dealer, felt renewed confidence. 

The reforms encouraged local manufacturing by reducing import bottlenecks and supporting domestic production.
